Humans have been enjoying marijuana for a long time. The first recorded evidence of the use of marijuana dates back 2500 years ago, where it is speculated that the people of Central Asia smoked psychoactive cannabis at funerals. Today more than 200 million people around the world smoke marijuana, according to the 2019 World Drug Report.
People smoke it for many reasons ranging from the relief of chronic pain, to regulate diabetes, or to improve lung capacity. Vaping has also increased in popularity, alongside the use of marijuana.
In 2011 only 7 million people were vaping and in 2018 the number increased to 41 million, as many are doing it as a healthier alternative to smoking cigarettes. Now it seems combining the two is becoming similarly popular. Here is all you need to know about getting the most out of vaping weed.
Vaping Admin Before Using
It is extremely important to clean the device you are using, as it is with a regular vaporizer. If not cleaned regularly, excess debris builds up and over time, this will damage the heating element. This will shorten the lifespan of your battery and will result in weak hits. Before using a device for the first time, it recommended to sanitize it.
To do this, let the device run for 3-4 heating cycles with an empty chamber to remove any residual machine oil, this is called a burn-off. Next, clean the vapor path with a pipe cleaner or cotton swab. Once you have cleaned the mouthpiece by removing it, soaking it in alcohol, wiping, rising, and drying it, it is ready to be used.
To clean effectively, remove the mouthpiece from the device after making sure it isn’t too hot. Remove any excess debris from the herb chamber using a brush and then scrub the inside of the chamber with a Q-tip dampened with alcohol. Finally, snake a pipe cleaner dampened with alcohol through the vapor path until it’s clean.
Know when to ditch
If you are manually placing weed into the chamber, it’s important to know when it has reached the point of being disposable. Knowing this is crucial to the experience of using a vape to smoke weed, as well as keeping the taste pleasurable and not burning your throat.
It is advised to grind the herb until is medium or fine as most vaporizers require this, but be sure to check the manufacturers recommendations as there are such a wide variety of vaporizers on the market nowadays.
If it looks a little chunky then it would be medium and if it is small in size, almost like tobacco from cigarettes, then it is fine.
If marijuana is a green color and has a pleasant aroma it still contains plenty of cannabinoids. If it is a light brown color there are still cannabinoids, but the amount is much lower. Once the marijuana is a dark brown color, that would be the perfect time to stop and replace with a new ‘bowl’, anything past this point would be charred and spent.
Consider Pre-Packed Carts
An alternative to packing the vaporizer with marijuana or filling it with oil is using THC vape cartridges. These cartridges are prefilled which saves a lot of time and is arguably cleaner.
All you need to do is attach the cartridge, turn the device on and inhale. They are available in many various strains and flavors and are usually color-coded to indicate whether it is indica, sativa, or hybrid.
It’s not necessary to clean the device after every single use, but the benefit would be great flavor each time you inhale. It could be made part of the vaping process while waiting for the effects to take place and by the time they do, you will have a clean device for the next use.
THC vape cartridges offer the benefit of not having to clean the device, but if you choose to use them, make sure the device is compatible with it.
Pay attention to the color of the herb as you are vaping to ensure that it will still contain flavor. If it is not a dark brown yet then it will still contain flavor and not be rough on your throat or taste buds. It is recommended to use flowers as some concentrates may include additives that could be harmful to your experience. Enjoy vaping and stay safe.
