If you want to get the most of the performance of your vape, you need to keep it clean and well-maintained. If you wonder how to clean a vape, you are in the right place.

Why Should You Clean Your Vape?

Keeping your vape is essential for its performance. The longer you use the device, the more vape juice, and wax residue builds up. Unless you clean it in time, it will start to interfere with the performance of your vape. Some e-liquids can clog up your coils if you don’t get rid of the residue on a regular basis.

If the vapor you inhale suddenly starts to taste burnt and the draw is tighter than usual, it’s time for you to learn how to clean a vape coil. Of course, you could just exchange the coil for a new one every time, but that’s just wasteful.

It might surprise you, but it’s really a good idea to clean your new vape after you get it. Even if the device looks clean, there might be some machine or plastic smell. It’s better to clean it before use just in case. Don’t worry – most modern vapes are very easy and quick to clean.

How to Clean a Vape Tank?

To clean your vape tank, you need to remove the coils at first. You’ll learn how to clean them in this post as well. After you removed the coils, disassemble the rest of the tank.

Try to remember how parts hold together and which part goes where, as you will need to assemble things back after the cleaning. It’s best to use a plastic bowl for all the parts so that you don’t use them along the way.

Unless your tank is very dirty, you can simply rinse it with warm water. Rinse every part under running water and dry it with a paper towel. Next, let all the parts to air dry before assembling them together. There should be no water or condensation when you assemble the tank back.

If your tank needs more cleaning, do the following:

  • Rinse the parts under the running water.
  • Pour some warm water into a bowl and put the rinsed parts into it to soak a bit.
  • Rinse the parts under the running water once more when the water in the bowl cools down.
  • Dry the parts with a paper towel.

Make sure to let every part dry completely before assembling the tank. Using a blow-dryer might seem like a good idea, but hot air can damage the o-rings, so be careful.

Alternatively, you can use propylene glycol to clean your tank. PG will help you to get rid of any leftover flavor you can sense. To do so, pour some PG into a bowl and let the tank parts soak in it for several hours. After the parts take their bath, let them dry on a paper towel.

You can use baking soda, dish soap, cheap vodka or ethanol to clean the vape tank. These substances can make your tank shiny in next to no time. Don’t use any vinegar or isopropyl alcohol to clean your tank. No matter what substance you use, make sure to rinse your tank with clean water afterward.

If you have an ultrasonic cleaner, used for cleaning jewelry, you can use it to clean it your vape as well. Fill it with water and let it run until the parts are clean. If you use dish soap for better results, make sure to rinse all the parts well before letting them dry.

How to Clean Vape Coils?

Cleaning vape coils is a bit more complicated than cleaning vape tanks. You should use different methods based on what coils you have, replaceable or rebuildable.

If you have a replaceable coil, you can clean it if you wish to, but it wouldn’t make the coil last more than a couple of days. If you let the dirty wicking soak in water and then dry it, you will make some of the residues go away, but not all of it.

In case you still feel like cleaning such coil heads, using the soak and rinse method is best. Soak your coil in ethanol for several hours, rinse it under the running water, blow air on the open side to get rid of the water and let the coil dry.

Wonder how to clean an atomizer? If you have a rebuildable atomizer, cleaning your coils is a must. First of all, remove the wicking from the coils. Next, press the firing button several times to get rid of any remaining e-liquid.

To deep clean your coils, remove the wicks. Next, dry burn the coils a bit. After you did it, take the atomizer off the mod and rinse the coils under running water. You can brush them lightly with a toothbrush.

Rinse well afterward. One more dry burn, in the end, should remove any remaining water from the coils.

If you notice that your coils are still dirty or the flavor is poor, you might need to rebuild the atomizer. Cleaning prolongs the lifespan of the coils, but it can’t make them immortal.

How to Clean a Vape Pen?

If you have a vape pen with a detachable tank, you should simply follow the cleaning steps from How to Clean a Vape Tank section of this post. Make sure to keep the battery compartment clean as well.

You should wipe it with a soft piece of cloth and avoid using any liquids. When cleaning your vape pen, don’t make any buttons wet.

In case you have a one-piece vape pen, cleaning it is not so easy. Cleaning such a device with a q-tip is the safest way to go. Soak a q-tip on PG or distilled water and wipe the insides of the pen with it. Next, wipe it with a dry q-tip just in case.

How to Change a Vape Juice?

If you want to get rid of the remains of the old flavor before you try a new one, it might sound like a lot of work that you need to clean your vape thoroughly every time.

If you vape all of your e-liquid, and there are no remains in the reservoir, the flavor should wear off quickly, especially if your new flavor is similar.

However, if your new flavor is very different, you might not be excited about what mix you get. To get rid of the old flavor, remove all the remaining e-liquid from the tank and take three to four small puffs.

Make the wattage low if your device allows it for more safety. When the wicks are dry, switching between flavors will be much easier.

If you have a rebuildable dripping atomizer, cleaning it from the old e-liquid is very easy. You simply need to take the top cap off and blow on the coils, when firing the device at the same time.

The wicking will dry and whiten. Make sure not to overdo, since you can burn the wicking if you try too hard. When the wicking is clean, you can drip the new e-liquid on it.

Another way of getting rid of a strong old flavor is vaping some base e-juice before you switch to a new flavor.
